Lolita is a novel written by Russian American Vladimir Nabokov. The book is about a middle-aged Humbert who becomes obsessed and sexually involved with a 12-year-old girl named Dolores Haze. So many people think Lolita mean “impure child” and impress us with its fatal and motivative enticement.

However, we often use lolita to refer to those innocent and adorable girls under fourteen years old, shortening for loli. In 1997, with the film Lolita being on, this doll-like fashion style became popular in Japan, and since then Lolita fashion starts sweeping around the world. Not only is young girls who love this fashion, but some mature women also become fan.

The designers make Lolita fashion more unique by adding gothic style and Lolita original elements, called ‘Gothic Lolita fashion’. Gothic style is the combination of angle and evil and its main colors black and white present the feeling of mystery and curiousness. Of course, mustard, dark green and purple have the effect. Compared with other styles, Gothic has sort of refined personality of women and romance. Along with lace, ruffle and any girly things added into gothic style, these elements balance too serious black and white. It is the goal Gothic Lolita fashion wants to create.

In Lolita fashion family, there are mainly three types: sweet Lolita, Gothic Lolita and classic Lolita.

Sweet Lolita is the most popular both in Japan and around the world, and is usually filled with pinks, blues and whites that can make girls look lovely and doll like.

Gothic Lolita fashion is usually the choice of girls who prefer to look mysterious and modest rather than too sweet and cute.

Classic Lolita is a little similar to sweet Lolita in style but choosing more plain colors such as white and dark brown, emphasizing the feeling of elegance and classy.

Actually, Lolita fashion has not been only considered a kind of fashion style rather than a way of emotional expression the youth find. They are eager to get rid of the rules and value themselves.
