Amy Winehouse Tops UK Charts After Death

Amy Winehouse’s grammy award-winning album “Back to Black” has soared to the top of the UK charts for 8 days after her death in London.

As tributes poured in for the late star, who died on July 23, fans flocked to buy her albums, sending five hits into the top 40 — a record for the late soul and jazz singer.

While “Back to Black” knocked Adele’s “21” off the top spot, Winehouse’s debut effort “Frank” came in at No. 5.

The box set combining “Frank” and “Back to Black” also entered at No.10.

The success comes as the 27-year-old’s devastated family awaits the results of toxicology tests to establish the cause of her death.

Relatives believe her decision to stop drinking, following protracted battles with drugs and alcohol, may have been a contributing factor.

Gennaro Castaldo, publicist for music retail chain HMV, said, “It’s no real surprise that ‘Back to Black’ has gone back to the top of the album charts.

“We saw such a surge in demand for Amy’s albums soon after her death was announced that we pretty much sold out and had to re-order more copies.

“Obviously quite a few people have been downloading the album but many more seem to have wanted it on CD.

“Perhaps by way of feeling a more tangible connection with Amy and her music — which is something we tend to see when any great artist sadly dies,” Castaldo added.

“Back to Black” was previously the official albums chart No. 1 in 2006.

“Frank” achieved its best ever placing, having previously peaked at No. 13 in 2005.

In the singles charts, “Back to Black” rose to No. 8 from last week’s No. 81, having previously reached No. 25 in 2006.

“Tears Dry on Their Own” came in at No. 27, “Rehab” at No. 29, “Love Is a Losing Game” at No. 33 and “You Know I’m No Good” at No. 37.

Mutley, you snickering, floppy eared hound. When courage is needed, you’re never around. Those medals you wear on your moth-eaten chest should be there for bungling at which you are best. So, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon. Howwww! Nab him, jab him, tab him, grab him, stop that pigeon now.
